The County Treasurer serves as the banker for the county. The Treasurer receives county tax collections, settlements from other county offices, and all state and federal monies designated for the county. The Treasurer is responsible for distribution of these funds to various taxing units of the county. The Treasurer keeps an accurate and detailed account of all receipts and disbursements of the county. The treasurer is required to make a monthly financial report to the Quorum Court on the fiscal condition of the County. The Treasurer signs checks, prepared and signed by the County Clerk indicating that the expenditures has been authorized by the County Court, to pay employees and creditors of the County.

The County Treasurer is allowed a commission on most funds coming into the office. These funds are used to support the office with any excess commission being redistributed back to the various taxing units.
