The county sheriff maintains public peace and has custody of the
county jail. AS chief enforcement officer, the sheriff’s office,
which includes the sheriff and deputies, enforces judgments and
executes summons, orders, injunctions, garnishments and
attachments and makes arrests on warrants issued by the courts.
The sheriff opens and attends each item of circuit and chancery
court, notifies residents selected to jury duty and assists in
handling witnesses and prisoners during a given court item.
The Sheriff’s office often prepares and assembles evidence of

prisoners to various penal and metal institutions of the state.
The sheriff works with various local municipal, state and
federal law enforcement officials.
